Hello!
I am a student at a college in Iowa right now, and I am looking into doing a research project on rivers, watersheds, and/or ponds. I am inquiring as to whether there are any current issues that need to be studied or not, and if so, what might they be. I am open to any ideas. Thank you. |

There are a lot of issues that could be addressed. Here are a few suggestions:
Nutrient pollution (overloading of Nitrogen, Phosphorous, etc, into waterbodies)
Failing septic systems and water quality
Erosion and sediment control (from either agriculture or construction sites)
Those are probably some of the most commonly known issues where there may be a lot of sources out there for you.

Jennie,
You have asked a little question with a lot of answers.
The month of May is the kick off of spring snapshots for IOWATER.
May I recomend that you get involved with a local snapshot.
Contact and work with the project leader(s).
Then follow the data.
How does the data compare with the last snapshot?
How does the data compare with other snapshots?
Are there High Bacteria, Chloride or other chemical readings?
How about the water color and transparency?
If you have an inquisitive mind, which I know you do, you will
soon have a big list of research ideas.
